The Maize at Grandpa's Farm

Last Friday Josh ended up not having to work (wow a Friday off, CRAZY) We tried to call some friends to see if anyone wanted to eat dinner and play games but it was totally last minute and no one could so we decided to go to the "maize at Grandpa's Farm." We had such a blast and I am so glad that we went before it got to cold, it was already cool enough to have the kids wear their jackets and we were there after dark. The maize is owned and ran by a family here in Billings, they are LDS and super nice. Here are the kiddos getting ready to have a blast. I just love that Aubrey is all decked out in her fall flower. Getting all four of them to take a picture together is next to impossible. We spent a good 7 minutes or so before we went in to try and get a picture and this is all we got. BOO! After we were all done with the maize we got out just in time for the nightly pig races. It was quite funny and Kendra and Ethan were chosen to come up and have a race of their own. They pretty much tied so they both got to be little piggies. Josh had fun trying out his roping skills. He hadn't done it in ages, but back in the day he did a little roping. He had a crowd watching him, but I kept giving him a hard time and telling him he was too close. One lady even took pictures of Josh and asked Josh to try and teach her son, which he did. For a minute there I thought I married a cowboy and then i remembered that a cowboy would never wear a purple shirt.
This was a fun little race that the kids could do. They put a rubber duckie in the gutter and then pumped the water as fast as they could in order to get their duckie to the other side. It was hard to get that thing going, Preston couldn't do it at all but he sure tried.
They had a playground made up of all kinds of things that you might find on a farm, things like hay bales, chain, huge pipes used for slides. Preston wasn't quite sure about this, it went awfully fast for him.
Instead of a sandbox they had a cornbox, full of dried corn kernels. They kids could have played in there for hours. Kendra was making corn angels and Preston and Ethan were playing with the trucks. It felt really strange to sit on those kernels.
They had this "cow train" that was pulled by a quad that took them all around the place. Kendra and Ethan couldn't wait for their turn on the cow train. The beautiful white stuff in Kendra's mouth is kettle corn. They popped the kettle corn right there and it was so delicious. I forgot how wonderful fresh popped kettle corn is, way better than any microwavable kind. Here is another action shot of Josh showing off his skills. I will admit that he did pretty good, I don't think that he ever missed, even on his first try.

He taught Ethan a thing or two also. Ethan did pretty good and so did Kendra.
Us just being silly! Ethan was too busy doing who knows what and Kendra was our photographer.
My very favorite part was the pedal cars. These things were so fun! They had a track made up and you just pedaled it like a bike. I got going pretty fast, Preston wasn't sure what to do except hang on for dear life.
Aubrey was an angel throughout the whole thing. We went though the actual corn maze very last and next time we won't be bringing a stroller. Since it hasn't been open that long yet the trail wasn't packed down enough and it made it pretty difficult. She got a little fussy at the end and so we took her out and she fell asleep in my arms and slept though the pig races even.
Josh wasn't quite sure how to hold Preston on the pedal cars. Or at least that was his excuse for going so slow.
More fun on the playground.
Kendra was way into this one. Look at her pump away! We had such a good time and highly recommend this to any family. We used a map to get through the maze. At one point we had lost were we were on the map. We hadn't been in there very long but it was getting close to being dark and we hadn't brought a flashlight. When Ethan heard Josh and I talking about how we didn't know exactly where we were he crouched down and cried and said "we're lost! We need to go back the way we came." He was so concerned and thoroughly scared of getting lost in the maze. (as their slogan says) We reassured him and eventually found where we were and made it safely out.

Wow! That looks awesome! You have such a fun, cute little family. If we're ever in the area when it's open, I would love to visit there. And props to Josh--I tried roping and it is tough! (Even if he is wearing a purple shirt! I love that you mentioned that!)
